Big Project Manifesto by Regula Russelle
An informative manifesto to help guide an artist in their next big project!
1” x 4”
This collaboration features hand-lettering by Jennifer Bilton and letterpress printing by Emma Klajbor, Monica Edwards Larson, and Regula Russelle. Big Project Manifesto grew one insight at the time as they printed a big project at Minnesota Center for Book Arts.
What you will find inside:
“Serenity is a rule
Honor the writer and her words give them space
If you give something enough
love and attention, something shimmering and whole will come through
Fall in love
with the content of the work
Laughing and fellowship
are just as important as meeting a deadline
Fall in love with the
process, even when things are slow going
Celebrate
each others’ strengths
Look for ways to
weave ideas together
Some things are so potent
they need to be used sparingly
From more comes more
When we work together
we create our own safety net
The eye is forgiving
Mistakes can generate ideas
Claim your worries
Make micro loans
of your knowledge
Spirit trumps technique
Imperfections
can be beautiful
There will be some failures,
it’s the heart we’re after
Don’t drink beer before cutting
paper, but drinking Prosecco while printing & celebrating is allowed
Trust your hands
We do as well as we can
and then we celebrate
Life is a big project
. . . take care.”

Regula Russelle happily makes tiny books and zines—work that addresses themes of community and culture making. She has been recognized with a Minnesota Book Artist Award for her body of work and contributions to the books arts community, and has received support for her work from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Jerome Foundation, and the McKnight Foundation. Her work can be found in public collections, on kitchen bulletin boards, and in the occasional handbag. She loves the color yellow, hand-lettering, kindness, and singing (alone, with others, and with her three-quarter sized guitar).
Texts of poems and of a couple of other tiny books are available at RegulaRusselle.com.
