Have You Eaten Yet? (食咗飯未呀?) Print by Jocelyn Tsui

$65.00

"食咗飯未呀? was inspired by one of the buildings I consistently pass by on my walks home in Hong Kong. As the building overlooks a central highway, I imagined installing large glowing text on its surface to engage with the thousands of commuters that passed by daily. The text meaning “Have you eaten yet?” expresses what has become the Cantonese colloquial equivalent of “How are you?” Set across sunset-like backgrounds, this illustration hopes to welcome people home after a long day." -Jocelyn Tsui

19" x 12.5"

Jocelyn Tsui (she/her) was born and raised in Hong Kong, where overwhelming density became deeply embedded in her maximalist configurations. Overall a multimedia artist - working with collage, sculpture, video, and installation - Tsui still prides herself as a printmaker first. The precision, repetition and sequencing of printmaking serves as the foundation of her work, but in the end, she aims to free herself from it and the obsession with control. While she maintains a separate research-based fine art practice, she continues to enjoy creating illustrations that vibrantly depict her beloved cityscapes and family memories (such as that in Have You Eaten Yet? and Family Flower Garden). She holds a BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, New York, where she still lives and works.
